Bob Gale Recreation Fund

Here's how Bob Gale looks at the fund. "It doesn't matter if you are 8 or 80, we want to encourage all individuals from Niagara Falls to pursue a healthy, active lifestyle and the fund has been established to assist those who can't afford to do this without a little help...Running shoes to bowling balls to seniors wanting to square dance ... anything like that. I don't want people to think it's just hockey or baseball for kids."

An eight-person committee will allocate money four times throughout the year. The deadlines are:

  • July 31 for fall programs;
  • Oct. 31 for winter programs;
  • Jan. 31 for spring programs; and
  • April 30 for summer programs.

Applications are available online at http://bobgalerecreationfund.com/05_Apply_Online.php

or they can be picked up at any of the following locations:

  • The Bob Gale Centre
  • Gale's Gas Bars in Niagara Falls
  • Niagara Falls City Hall
  • MacBain Community Centre (Parks and Rec Office)
  • Public Libraries in Niagara Falls

NOTE: Individuals must complete an application including at least one reference (ie teacher, minister etc.) by the deadline to be considered.

Sport Commission In the Community

On March 2nd and 3rd the Niagara Sport Commission hosted a Fundamental Movement Skills Workshop at Eastdale Secondary in Welland. The workshop helped to certify 10 high school students as community coaches. The NSC would like to thank the Coach's Association of Ontario for helping to arrange this workshop. The students are a part of an NSC Community Engagement Project tying physical activity and leadership to the development of a healthy Niagara.
