The St. Catharines Cobras Minor Baskeball Association will be holding late registrations this Saturday from 9am-12pm at the Canadian Tire on Welland Avenue in St. Catharines. All those interested in signing up are asked to bring a birth certificate or photo health card to verify their age.

6th Annual Sports Celebrity Dinner

On Tuesday May 8th, 2012, Club Roma will host the 6th Annual Sports Celebrity Dinner to benefit the Niagara Peninsula Children's Centre. The night will feature a silent auction, live auction and dinner. Former NHL greats Dennis Hull, Billy Smith, Ed Chadwick will be on hand; as will former CFL player Angelo Mosca and Canadian UFC fighter Mark Hominick amongst others. Tickets will be $100 and those who purchase will be issues a $60 tax receipt. Tickets may be purchased at the Niagara Peninsula Children's Cenre or by calling 905-688-3550

Spending associated with the Canadian sport tourism industry reached $3.6 billion in 2010, an increase of 8.8% from 2008, based on Statistics Canada (2010) data commissioned by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA).

LeagueToolbox Info Session

The Niagara Sport Commission and the Welland Sport Tourism Alliance will be hosting a LeagueToolbox Info Session on Thursday February 23rd @ 7pm in the Community Room at the Welland Civic Centre. Come out to find out how LTB can help you and your organization with registration, scheduling, player and volunteer management, communications and much more!

Niagara Flag Rugby Tryouts!

Niagara Flag Rugby are inviting anyone interested in trying out flag rugby to come to Heartland Forest in Niagara Falls on March 3rd from 1 to 4 pm for some fun. Young and young at heart can come along and have some fun! We will have flag rugby games, that everyone can participate in, starting at 1:30 and 2:30. Refreshments will be available and hotdogs can be purchased for $1.00!
After the games feel free to explore the trails at Heartland Forest.
You could also register for the upcomming season at rugby fest as well!

NSC Names New Executive Director

On Wednesday, the Niagara Sport Commission (NSC) Board of Directors announced the hiring of its new Executive Director, Mr. Bram Cotton. Cotton, who resides in Niagara, brings a unique skill set to the NSC, having spent the past 10 years of his career in management roles such as business development, marketing, communication, sponsorship, revenue generation and event management. Cotton has worked in all levels of sport from provincial to international, as well as both amateur and professional.

NSC Trillium Announcement

This past Wednesday the NSC was at the Scotiabank Convention Center to formally announce that it has received $137,000 in funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Additionally, Bram Cotton was named the new Executive Director of the Commission. Cogeco TV was on hand to cover the announcements and their coverage can be seen here.

Niagara Region Public Health will be hosting a free Tobacco-free Sports and Recreation workshop on Thursday February 9th from 5:00-8:00pm.  Come learn about the steps involved in developing tobacco-free policies and grant opportunities that can help you along the way. Sport Commission In the Community




On March 2nd and 3rd the Niagara Sport Commission hosted a Fundamental Movement Skills Workshop at Eastdale Secondary in Welland. The workshop helped to certify 10 high school students as community coaches. The NSC would like to thank the Coach's Association of Ontario for helping to arrange this workshop. The students are a part of an NSC Community Engagement Project tying physical activity and leadership to the development of a healthy Niagara.
